Welcome to the Parrill site. A virtual Parrill reunion every day.We have found that we are descendants of Hugh Parrell  who married Ann Calvert of Early Frederick Co Va. Ann Calvert is decended from the Lord Baltimores of England. We have been on quest to track down as many Parrills across the country as possible, as most of the Parrills are from this union of Hugh and Ann.

Sources show Hugh came over from Scotland in late 1690's or early 1700's. From sources gathered from other families researching the Bruce family, it seems that Hugh was born in Portsoy, Fordyce, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. We will tell some of what we know of Hugh, and of his families enjoy...................

Hugh served on the first Grand Jury in Frederick Co. Hugh is listed on various papers found while researching. Hugh and his kinsman John Bruce are shown as appraisers for property. He is also shown as witness on wills. Hugh was here in time period when George Washington had visited Winchester, and there is great chance that they met.

Hugh was respected in society. Hugh had much land in Frederick Co. It is presumed that Hugh had an older daughter Sarah which was John Bruce's wife. Hugh had more children, see family chart page to see this info,

The name Parrell was recorded "Parrell and Parrill", in legal documents pertaining to Hugh. It seems from the legal documents of his son John, that  "Parrill" became the spelling that he used, and from that point on, the others followed him in using the "i" instead of "e" in Parrill. For whatever reason John started using "Parrill". Maybe he found out something.

Of course in the early days the name was recorded various ways due to the pronunciation, and some family members could not write the name themselves since they simply did not know how. So the name got recorded in documents the way it sounded by the recorder of the court.

Of the sons John and Joseph they are mentioned in the Papers of George Washington. There is also some mention of them when there is any searching done about the Revolutionary War.

We are descended from Hugh's grandson Joseph. Joseph's son is our our  Great Great Granddad Jacob Dillon Parrill, one of three triplet boys.  Jacob Dillon Parrill served in the Civil War, and was a Corporal in the 114th Virgina Militia Company F.

Many Parrills    fought in the Civil War  on both sides

                               csa

This was a terrible time, and families were devastated. Jacob D's cousin named John Columbus Parrill fought in the Civil War also, and named his son Wade Hampton after the CSA General Wade Hampton.

Jacob Dillon Parrill named his son Edward Ashby Turner Parrill after the famous CSA General Turner Ashby. Who served under Stone Wall Jackson. These were  proud and hard working families.

These Parrills lived in the Capon Valley, Dillons Run, Hanging Rock area, like our Jacob It seems that the war tore some families apart also.

Some fought for the Union, some for the South. Our cousin Kenny Parrill tells the tale of them damn "Yankee Parrills" his granddad would say. I'm sure that there were some Parrills who felt strongly against the "Southern Parrills" also. A Hatfields and McCoy situation.

Back to Kenneth's story, he says because WV broke away from Va during the Civil War his Granddad was really upset over this, and eventually moved from WV to Va. I guess it was Jacob D's home and he learned to deal with it, and he stayed in WV. It had to be hard on these early Parrill generations, on both sides. at that time. And I'm sure there are a lot more stories.

Jacob Dillon was Hugh's Great Grandson. Back to John, son of Hugh, he was an educated man. He was Judge in Hampshire Co. in 1798. And was socialy active in a lot of matters. He also was the tax collector for various years. At one point he had 1200 acres of land in the Capon Valley, and Dillon Run areas of Hampshire Co WV. John Jr. was also a judge and he went to Ohio in the early 1800's as did a lot of Parrills.

Some Parrill's went further west. wagon Joseph Franklin Parrill, son of Joseph and brother to Jacob Dillon Parrill went west to Ohio. Silas, son of John Jr., was one of them also, he is of the line that Larue Parrill comes from.

The Parrill's of Hampshire traveled back and forth to Ohio a lot in the 1800's according to court and land records. LaRue Parrill had put together a book in 1969 the best he could on the Parrills, but it has some errors and missing links. But still a great work for it's time.

As mentioned earlier some Parrills  traveled and settled accross the United States. These are the missing Parrill links that we are looking for.

Sarah and I  are still here, haven't got far still in Frederick Co. If you haven't done so please fill out a Parrill family history form. It only will take a little while and will help us find our missing links out there, the link is below.

We will share info and you can send scanned pictures, or send stories, More to come.......
